This service provides you with the latest news, information and regulatory
changes in the liquor and gaming industries.
1 Dec 2009
New Executive Director for OLGR announced
Elizabeth Tydd has been appointed as the new Executive Director of the
Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing (OLGR) within Communities NSW. Ms Tydd
brings extensive regulatory, legal and management skills to the position.
In her current role as Assistant Commissioner of the Compliance and
Legal Group at the Office of Fair Trading, Ms Tydd developed and
implemented national best practice in compliance and enforcement.
She has also held the position of Deputy Chairperson of the Consumer,
Trader and Tenancy Tribunal, the largest tribunal in NSW, for the past 7
years, and previously played key regulatory roles in workers compensation
and health.
Ms Tydd also has a Master of Laws and has completed post-graduate
studies in management.
Her appointment follows the retirement of former OLGR Commissioner
Michael Foggo in July. Ms Tydd takes up the position from 7 December 2009.
New safety regime for violent hot spots
In an effort to drive down alcohol-related
assaults and anti-social behaviour, the NSW Government has named 66 venues
which will face new restrictions. This follows the first review of the hot
spot venues list. Other venues are now off the list. A fact sheet on the new safety regime and other resources, including venue
safety guides from ClubsNSW and AHA (NSW), are now available.
Xmas / New Year venue trading hours
OLGR Xmas / New
Year closure dates
In line with NSW Government guidelines, OLGR will be closed over the
upcoming Xmas / New Year period. Our customer service counter will be close
from noon on Thursday 24 December and will reopen again on Monday
4 January (9.00am to 3pm). From Monday 11 January 2010 the
customer service counter will revert to normal hours, 8.30am to 4.30pm.
Venue operators requiring signs and other harm minimisation resources
before Xmas should place
their orders by Friday 11 December to avoid disappointment and allow
time for delivery.
Contact cards now!
Have you got your contact
cards in place? All venues with gaming machines in NSW must have
contact cards in place from today, 1 December 2009.
Bluetooth used to educate patrons in Epping
Patrons at Epping Hotel received responsible drinking messages on their
mobiles as part of a recently completed pilot. Messages were sent using
Bluetooth wireless technology. Northern Sydney Central Coast Health
Promotion Unit and the Epping Hotel participated in the pilot project,
which was supported by Eastwood Gladesville Liquor Accord.
Epping Hotel patrons were sent messages to drink water while drinking
alcohol and to drink slowly. They were also sent reminders that intoxicated
people will be asked to leave licensed premises. Messages were sent from
8pm to closing time over the week-long pilot period. Due to the success of
the pilot, Eastwood Gladesville Liquor Accord has applied for funding to
get a larger responsible drinking messages project up and running.
Sharing fares in Ballina
In an effort to reduce drink driving during the festive season, the
Ballina Liquor Accord has implemented the ‘Share the Fare’ subsidised taxi
scheme.
Patrons can now get $4 off their taxi ride home at the end of the night.
All that’s needed is to show their ID with a current address to bar staff.
This is then written onto a $4 voucher, which is valid for that night only.
If patrons also provide a mobile number, they are then advised via SMS text
when the taxi has arrived to pick them up.
